What should I know as a Homeowner selling my House?
If you’re a homeowner selling a house, there are certain cost involved. Some of these cost arise before you can consult me as an attorney and that probably involves fixing up a house to have it marketable.
In New York City there are transfer taxes for any house over five hundred thousand. Expect to pay 1.4% in transfer taxes in privilege of selling your home in New York City. The single biggest cost that a seller might have is the real estate broker commission.
If you use a broker and those range around 6 percent, I always recommend my clients try to negotiate that 6% is the maximum you want to pay, but hopefully you can get it down to 3-5%.
